Our History

In December 1991, a group of northeastern herbalists came together, compelled by the need for a regional voice for our views and interests.

We wanted to facilitate broader community networking among neighboring herbalists to exchange ideas and knowledge and, when necessary, to lend support. We also wanted to create a means by which the northeast herbal community could be aware of what services and/or products were available in our region.

From these ideas grew the Northeast Herbal Association (NEHA).

Today, NEHA is as diverse as many of the gardens and wild spaces found growing in the Northeast region. Our community of members ranges from novice plant enthusiasts to herbal professionals and schools.

NEHA publishes quarterly newsletters as well as an annual directory of members. We organize an annual retreat and we award grants to benefit children, the environment and to further education. These grants are funded annually primarily through membership dues.
