2019 Retreat Workshops

Keynote Address by Amanda Midriff of Locust Light Farm
Picture
"Make Plant Magic: Nourishing our Spirits with Ritual" with Amanda Midkiff

Ritual feeds our spirits and anchors us through the passage of time. In this workshop we will explore the difference between sacred and mundane rituals, why ritual is so helpful in our lives, how to craft meaningful rituals for yourself, and, of course -- how to bring plants into the mix. We'll discuss many ways to incorporate plants into ritual, and we'll explore the magical personalities of 5 well-known medicinal herbs.

Amanda Midkiff is the herbalist and plant witch of Locust Light Farm in Titusville, NJ where she teaches hands-on herbalism classes and leads seasonal rituals and magical events. Amanda founded Locust Light in 2015 with the goal of creating a space where people could connect with the plants as living beings and experience their medicine firsthand. Amanda's passion lies in helping people to awaken to the twinkling magic of plants and the strength of their own abilities.

"Wish Bundles" with Gayle Gineo Nogas

Herb Magic is an ancient art and an important element of most pagan practice. Each herb has a different purpose and power. In this workshop we will put together our bundles from herbal material from our gardens and fields or go wildcrafting. You can hang them on the door or near windows for a variety of magical purposes. It's just fine to hang multiple bundles in different locations around your home. We will be attaching our wishes to the bundle and later burn to send our wishes out to the universe.

Gayle Nogas M H; is the founder and proprietor of Gayle’s Thyme Herbal Apothecary in Enfield, CT.  Gayle’s Thyme opened in 1995. Although the store has closed after 20 years, Gayle is still very active with giving classes at home and at the local college.  Gayle offers classes, demonstrations and workshops using herbs and aromatherapy for healing your mind, body and spirit, as well as pagan classes. Through her 30 years as an herbalist, during that time she received her Master Herbalist Diploma from the American College of Healthcare Sciences, Portland Oregon and is a long-time member of the Connecticut Herb Association, Northeast Herbal Association and National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy.

"Vietnamese Vegetarian Summer Roll Workshop"

with Gayle Gineo Nogas

Vietnamese Vegetarian Summer Roll, also known as fresh spring rolls, are one of my favorite things to make. They are made from rice paper wrappers rolled around fresh crunchy vegetables partnered with, fresh herbs, and rice noodles. I will demonstrate how to make them and then everyone can make your own. We will make two different dipping sauces.

"Hydrosol & Essential Oil Making" with Jamie Moran

During our free time we will be able to distill some plant material (e.g. lemon balm or mint, possibly pine) -- whatever we have at that time of year (fresh or dried). We will be using a glass still to produce hydrosol and possibly essential oils, depending on the plan we choose.
